2026 election: why you should check your voter registration now

Élections Québec is urging the public to check their registration on the electoral list before the provincial election, scheduled for October 5, 2026, is called. According to estimates the institution published on June 15, nearly 94% of eligible electors are on the list, and about 98% of registered people are registered at their current address. These high rates still leave significant gaps: more than **400,000 eligible people** are believed not to be registered, while more than **100,000 people** are believed to be registered at a former address. Registration matters because it determines the riding and the polling station where a person can vote. A move, recently turning 18, or a return to Quebec are among the reasons that may warrant a check. The process can be started on the Élections Québec website. The institution recommends taking care of it before the election period, when corrections are generally simpler. The options available may change once the election is called, so consult the official instructions when making the request. A voter information card does not replace the official check. When in doubt, the confirmation provided by Élections Québec remains the reference.
