Quebec's 2026 election: the scheduled date and the main milestones

Quebec's general election is scheduled for **October 5, 2026**. Élections Québec notes, however, that the date can be moved up or postponed in the situations set out in the Election Act. Until the election writ is issued, certain deadlines counted backwards must therefore be presented as conditional. In June, Élections Québec indicated that the election was expected to be called on August 29 if no election was called sooner. The writ marks the official start of the election period and sets the calendar for nominations, advance voting and the other voting options. If the vote remains set for October 5, the nomination period must end at 2 p.m. on the eighteenth day before voting day. The list published before that deadline remains subject to change: a person announced by a party is not automatically an officially accepted candidate. On the scheduled voting day, polling stations must be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Other voting options are available before that day, including advance voting and voting at the returning officer's office. Electors should check the dates and their polling place directly with Élections Québec once the writ has been issued.
